Tesco’s online platform launched in June with 9,000 products, as well as selling third-party products from 17 sellers – these are fulfilled directly by the supplier.
31 partners are now retailing on marketplace – categories include garden, DIY, homeware, baby accessories, toys and petcare, camping, luggage and cards. These are listed alongside Tesco groceries.
The primary focus of marketplace is to build out and extend the range of food related home and lifestyle products available to customers.
The third-party sellers will be monitored on an ongoing basis based on factors like delivery speed, returns, and delivery success rates, and in time metrics like customer ratings and reviews.
How it works
Shoppers pay for the third-party items separate to their grocery shop, with marketplace items incurring their own, separate delivery fees. For Anytime Delivery Saver customers, or if an order is over £50 from the same seller, standard deliveries are free. Shoppers will be able to earn Clubcard points on all purchases. Items will be clearly labelled as coming from third-party sellers.
Tesco plan is for marketplace’s range and supplier base to continue increasing over the summer. They are aiming to become a destination online sales platform with critical mass and credibility in a number of categories.
