The longest day is now behind us, and following yesterday’s Government announcement easing Covid-19 restrictions from 4th July. We are looking forward to our remaining work from home staff gradually returning to the office, and this is how things are currently looking in freight, supply chain and logistics as we all emerge from lockdown.
Air Freight – Rates on the main East-West routes are still dropping, China to Europe is currently lower than it was a week ago. We are expecting freighter planes to begin taking more of the market share, as demand for charter freighters has dropped and airlines remove less efficient passenger-freighters for moving cargo (the time and labour involved in using the cabin and doors is restrictive and unsuitable for certain goods).
Sea Freight – Rates remain steady.
Demand for warehousing remains strong, the global increase of online spending by both businesses and consumers is anticipated to keep growing. This has leveled the playing field for small businesses, and is a good incentive for global cooperation on negotiations to put in measures that continue to facilitate cross-border movement of goods and services, when the EU transition period ends on 31st December.
We’ve had a busy few months in lockdown, in March and April we were able to use our team and resources to help, working in partnership with our clients we were able to ship 2,500 disposable face masks and 500 protective respirators to the UK and give them to local care homes.
At the end of May we closed our 17th year of trading with a really strong performance, we’re pleased to say an increase on last year’s record turnover. The growth in new markets and investment we’ve made in our services and facilities is going to make 2020/21 a really exciting year for all of us at TPS Global Logistics.
