The UK Government launched a new export strategy last week

‘Race to a Trillion’ is supported by the Department for International Trade (DIT) to help businesses in the UK double their exports, aiming to hit an overall target of £1 trillion per year by 2030.

In 2020 £600 billion goods and services were exported by British firms, but with only one in ten businesses currently exporting, UK good exporters are falling behind European competitors like Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands.

The ‘Made in the UK, Sold to the World’ campaign includes a 12-point export strategy which will give businesses the tools to capitalise on the benefits of UK free trade deals.

As well as financial support initiatives to boost overseas trade DIT has also increased its services and access to expertise and advice. First time exporting owners and managers of SMEs can join an Export Academy to access masterclasses, roundtables and networking events.

The UK Tradeshow Programme is easily accessible for businesses operating outside London and the South East and offers support for businesses wanting to exhibit products at the worlds biggest tradeshows. The export hotline and online service provides a single point of contact for exporters to Europe and the Export Champions facilitate learning and networking opportunities with peer to peer introductions and events.

Made in the UKThe most innovative and profitable businesses are those with an international footprint. There are opportunities for expansion outside the EU into countries such as India, China and the US.
