Update on the coronavirus impact on freight and supply chain logistics

Air freight disruptionAir Freight
Several Airlines continue to cancel flights to China and Hong Kong. AIT’s transportation logistics experts are trying to develop solutions for customers importing or exporting from affected regions. However please note that the State Health Organisation is placing shipment priority, including import customs clearance, on medical supplies.

There are still regular flights into less affected regions such as Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai. Our team are working closely with Airlines to ensure we have access to freight shipping during this indefinite period of reduced capacity.

We are continually monitoring availability so speak to us regarding your shipping. We will also keep you informed with any updates.

More blank sailings are scheduled into March, and we predict further delays when China’s factory production resumes and inland transportation supply chains return to normal trans-Pacific cargo flows, in late February or early March.

Adding to the disruption on shipping, the U.S. Coast Guard has issued a Marine Safety Information Bulletin establishing safeguards to restrict entry for vessels that have called on Chinese ports and/or are carrying crew members who have been in China. And in Asia, several ports have closed their borders entirely.

We are ensuring our vessel space is protected wherever possible, so please continue to contact us during this period.

Going forward the coronavirus freight slump will cause a spike In demand once China reopens for business.

This surge in freight demand will create further capacity shortages across all modes of transport and we expect to see rates go up in response, so speak to us today to future proof and secure the best Spring rates.

For more information, advice regarding your supply chain logistics or any of our services, please contact Matt Smith, Barry Broughton, Katie Town or David Stansfield. We look forward to assisting you with your next shipment.
